Lancaster EMS proudly hosts a PA Bureau of EMS approved EMT-Basic Certification Course. Our EMT Academy is an ‘earn while you learn’ style program where candidates are paid from the onset at $16.50/hr. The class is held over the course of approximately 15 weeks Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. The program comes with a two year contract of full-time employment upon completion, with a base rate for new Lancaster EMS EMTs of $23.50/hr.

The next class is anticipated to begin in Fall 2026/Spring 2027, but no specific date has been determined at this time. We encourage all who have interest to complete two mandatory observation shifts (Daylight 0700-1900 and Nighttime 1900-0700).

Requirements for Admissions to the EMT Academy

• 18 years old or older
• GED or High School Diploma (minimum)
• Driver’s License
• Clean Driving History
• Clean Criminal History
• Clean Childline History
• Must pass Physical, including drug and physical assessment screening

The following is some information pertaining to scheduling your observer shifts

• You can start scheduling once you submit the required paperwork via our Scheduler (this paperwork is sent to you via email after you submit your application).
• You will need two observer shifts – 1 day time (0700-1900 hours) and 1 night time (1900-0700 hours)
• If under age of 18 for observations we will schedule between 0700-2300. Under 18 not permitted to extend beyond 2300. Note: Candidate MUST be 18 years of age or older before beginning of program
• Can be done during the week or on weekends
• Give at least 4 to 6 different dates you would be available
• Clean Childline History
• Must pass Physical, including drug and physical assessment screening

Once you complete the required Observations you may be invited back to participate in a PANEL Interview as well as partake in a lifting assessment on the same schedule as the PANEL Interview.

EMT Certifcation

Emergency Medical Technicians, better known as EMTs, are an important part of the pre-hospital healthcare community. They work in various locations, from Emergency Medical Service (EMS) organizations to fire departments, industrial first aid teams and special response teams. EMTs see patients at a critical time, during illness or injury. They are caring people who provide pre-hospital care, comfort and compassion.
