Why Learn CPR?

According to the AHA, approximately 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of a hospital setting per year. Without prompt action, death can occur in minutes. CPR certification through Lancaster EMS can equip you with the knowledge and tools needed to save lives, be it at home, work, school or anywhere else.

Heartsaver CPR

Heartsaver CPR is a classroom course that teaches basic CPR skills such as performing a head tilt-chin lift, giving compressions and breaths, and calling your emergency response number (or 911). The program teaches Adult/Child CPR, Adult/Child Choking, and offers optional modules in Infant CPR and choking , Adult/Child CPR with mask, and Infant CPR with mask. Additionally, the course covers the proper usage of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Heartsaver First-Aid is designed to meet OSHA regulations and teach basic first aid skills such as stopping bleeding that can be seen, helping someone with a possible broken bone or sprain, helping someone who is having an allergic reaction, and making sure the scene is safe. The course covers Adult first aid (first aid basics, medical emergencies and injury emergencies with an optional environmental emergency module).

AHA Courses for Healthcare Providers

Lancaster EMS is an AHA certified instructor that hosts several courses for professional healthcare professionals. These courses are designed primarily for healthcare professionals in emergency departments, intensive care units, critical care departments, surgical areas, or pre-hospital environments, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other professionals who may respond to medical emergencies. Basic Life Support and CPR for Healthcare Providers (BLS)

The Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers class provides information on adult, pediatric and infant CPR, including two-rescuer scenarios, the use of mouth-to-mask, and bag-valve mask. The class also covers automated external defibrillation for adults and children, foreign-body airway obstruction (conscious and unconscious), special resuscitation situations, and other cardiopulmonary emergencies.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

The ACLS Provider course provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest, symptomatic bradyarrhythmia, tachyarrhythmia, acute coronary syndrome, and acute ischemic stroke.

The ACLS Study Guide and pretest will be e-mailed to you following registration for your ACLS class. If your license or background has not provided you with ECG or Pharmacology training and application, or if you need to review and expand your knowledge, we suggest that you complete an ECG & Pharmacology class prior to taking ACLS for successful completion.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Designed for pediatricians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, emergency physicians, and other healthcare providers who care for infants and children, the PALS course teaches participants to recognize infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest as well as strategies needed to prevent it You will learn the skills needed to resuscitate and stabilize infants and children in respiratory failure, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest.
